Our Viewpoint

The Fashion industry is the second biggest polluting industry in the world, second only to oil. It has many environmental footprints and we believe that the entire industry needs to make a radical change to improve its environmental impact and act more responsibly. We can’t do everything, but everyone can do something. Our vision is to empower women with stylish, long-lasting clothes and to encourage our clients to a more reasonable approach to fashion.

With the increasing fast-fashion culture we tend to consume and dispose of our clothes quicker than ever before. In order to “slow down” fashion, we strive to help clients building long-lasting wardrobes that stand the test of time, in terms of style and quality.

Mayla is proud to be using silk as our primary fabric not only because of its fantastic feel and look but silk is also a highly renewable resource with less impact on the environment than many other fabrics. The silk is a natural fibre made without hazardous chemicals. The silk worms feed on mulberry leaves, which don’t require the use of pesticides or fertilizers to grow. Another advantage of silk is that it requires very little water to grow, comparing to many other materials.

Our silk manufacturer is certified according to Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX®, an independent testing and certification system that tests for harmful substances used during all stages of production.

As a result of the flourishing online shopping, packaging waste is a growing environmental issue. In order to find a more sustainable packaging solution our ecommerce bags are 100% climate neutral and reusable. Our E-com packaging is marked with the ”Återbära” label and is reusable and 100% climate neutral. It means that the carbon footprint from every bag is calculated and compensated by certified tree planting in South America.

Up to two thirds of garments carbon footprint occurs after purchase. Learn how you can look after your garments better to reduce your impact.

Mayla clothes are made to last, but unfortunately they will eventually be worn-out over time. Hand in your clean and worn-out Mayla items to the closest Mayla store and we will help you to reuse the garment. In Sweden about 8 kg of textile are simply thrown away every year. That is real waste since most garments could have a beautiful second life. Think about your garment as a “life” – shouldn’t it fulfil its potential? Hand in your pre-loved Mayla garment to us and we’ll help you giving it a second chance. How does it work?

- Make sure the garment is clean and dry, preferably sealed in a plastic bag.

- Hand in the textile to the staff at the cash desk, in your closest Mayla store or send it to us.

- You will receive a discount check with 200 SEK off your next purchase at Mayla.

What happens with the garment? Depending on material and condition of the garment, it will either be recycled or donated for second hand or charity.
