A VEGAN BRAND
We challenge and push the limits of sustainable fashion, so that we can contribute to a friendlier world. For us, this means putting the welfare of people, animals and the environment at the core of everything we do. As a sustainable brand we support a cruelty-free fashion industry, where animals aren’t exploited because of their skins and hair. According to recognized international sustainability indexes, vegan materials is also the most environmentally friendly choice, partly because the production of animal-derived clothing helps to finance and maintain the unsustainable animal agriculture. For this reason, we have been a 100% vegan brand since 2020.

LESS IS MORE
We believe in producing small quantities to minimise overstock and to inspire our customers to a more slow and circular consumption. We encourage a cruelty-free and sustainable closet that will last for years, and thoughtfully replacing and adding long-lasting pieces. Therefore, we aim to offer clothes that stand the test of time in terms of both quality and design. To close the loop our customers can hand in their pre-loved Mayla items to one of our stores for help with second use or recycling.

EUROPEAN PRODUCTION
80% of our production is made in Europe, mainly in Portugal and in Turkey. When it comes to choosing manufacturing partners, we consider a number of different factors: craftsmanship, working conditions for the employees, environmental impact and of course price, quality and quantities. By gradually moving a bigger part of our production to Europe, we will not only reduce our carbon footprint generated by the transport, but also be able to make regularly factory visits, making sure our Code of conduct is being adhered.

CHOICE OF MATERIAL IS KEY
Material choices play a significant role in a product’s lifetime sustainability impact, so we push for better fibers and finishing processes. Organic cotton, plant-based materials such as certified viscose and lyocell fibers, recycled polyester and rescued deadstock are some of the materials featured in our collections. When we choose new materials, we use the HIGG Materials Sustainability Index (Higg MSI) to measure the environmental sustainability impacts of different materials. Developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, (SAC), it's the apparel industry’s most trusted tool to accurately measure the environmental sustainability impacts of materials. The index takes into account the energy, water and chemicals used to make materials, as well as generated waste.

PLANT-BASED
80% of the materials we use are plant-based, mainly using ENKA®, ECOVERO™, REFIBRA™, TENCEL™ and organic cotton. Sustainable cellulose fibers such as ENKA® and ECOVERO™ have replaced silk which was one of Mayla’s core materials. Extracted from FSC-certified forests in Scandinavia, their supply chain is traceable, transparent and fully European.

GIVING BACK
We are proud of our PETA certification and developed limited edition “Mayla x Peta” sweatshirt to spread awareness. 20% of proceeds will be donated to PETA’s campaign “Animals are not ours to wear”. Moving forward we would like to develop our charitable work giving back to environmental and cruelty-free organisations.
